Khartoum, Oct 7 (SUNA) – Sudan and Republic of South Sudan, on Thursday, signed a memorandum of understanding on water management.
Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Prof. Yasser Abbas signed for Sudan and his South Sudanese counterpart, Peter Manawa signed for the Republic of South Sudan.
Prof. Abbas said in press statement that South Sudan witnessed “unprecedented” floods, revealing that the two countries will cooperate to deal with these floods and how to forecast them.
The minister announced that Sudan and South Sudan will cooperate to rehabilitate irrigation projects in Upper Nile area, through rehabilitation of the water pumps and the irrigation canals as a donation from Sudan government.
The South Sudanese Minister of Irrigation said the memo includes the joint cooperation in the fields of water resources and the rehabilitation of irrigation projects in his country.
