Khartoum, Oct. 21 (SUNA) – President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council Gen. Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan received at his office today the UN Special Representative for Sudan and head of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Perthes.

The meeting discussed a number of issues of common concern, foremost of which is the current developments in the country, the relationship of partners in the transitional period, and the United Nations' support for the transitional period.

In a press statement after the meeting, the head of the UN mission, Volker Perthes, stressed the need to continue the partnership between the military and civilian components to complete major transition issues represented in the formation of the Transitional Legislative Council, making the constitution and preparing for the elections, noting that his meeting with the President of the Sovereignty Council came within a series of meetings he held recently with Prime Minister Dr. Abdalla Hamdok and the partnership parties from the military component, freedom and change, civil society and representatives of armed struggle organizations.

Mr.  Perthes called for the need to return to dialogue between all parties to preserve the achievements of the transitional period, pointing to the achievements made during the past two years at the economic level, Sudan's return to the international community and the achievement of Juba agreement on peace in Sudan.
