Khartoum, Aug (SUNA) - The Deputy President of the National Umma Party, Dr.Mariam Al-Sadig Al-Mahdi met , today at her home,  ,  the Head of the United Nations Integrated Transitional Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) Volker Perthes.

. The meeting dealt with the current political situation in the country and the ongoing efforts to unify the national political and revolutionary forces to reach a consensus vision on the transition to democratic rule and the establishment of the civilian authority demanded by the Sudanese people after the military announced the commitment to hand over full power to civilians.

 Dr. Mariam briefed the International Official on  her party's efforts to communicate with the revolutionary national political and civil forces to reach a consensus on the national issues,explaining  the proposed initiatives and opportunities to reconcile them to reach a unified vision, in preparation for a transitional period that benefits from the experience of its predecessor.

 She stressed that accelerating the delivery of civilian rule is an urgent need to restore constructive cooperation with the international community.

The Head of UNITAMS referred to their interaction and support for all national efforts to achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people in restoring the path of civil democratic transformation, indicating that the UN mission is committed to the principles of the United Nations of human rights and the foundations of democratic governance.

He stressed the mission’s role is limited to facilitating the process of political dialogue between the components, pointing to the possibility of reaching a consensus that would lead to the formation of a civilian authority that would achieve stability in the country to support the path of democratic transition, leading to free and fair elections at the end of the transitional period.
