Khartoum, Jan. 31(SUNA) – The Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Shams El-Din Kabbashi, affirmed the government's support for the Sudanese Red Crescent Society to carry out its humanitarian role to serve the country and its people.

During his meeting at the Presidential Palace today, General Kabbashi assured Abbas Gullit, the advisor to the Head Regional Director of the International Federation of Red Cross Societies in Africa, accompanied by Mohamed Omar Mukhair, Regional Director of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, on the important role that the Society plays through its contributions in addressing humanitarian issues in the country.

He asserted the government's commitment to facilitate work of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society through the integration of efforts to quickly respond to disasters and humanitarian needs, stressing the independence of the Society's work through its elected institutions.

The advisor to the Head Regional Director of the International Federation of Red Cross Societies in Africa,Gullett , pointd to a series of meeting he held during his visit to the country, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Finance, as well as partners, donors and diplomatic missions in Sudan, who affirmed their support for the role of the Sudanese Red Crescent Society, indicating readiness of the International Red Cross and donors to support the Society to provide humanitarian support to the Sudanese, expressing thanks to the Government of Sudan for facilitating the visit and for holding fruitful meetings in Khartoum.
